GVN Review: Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown

It has been 5 years since Virtua Fighter 5 vanilla was released on consoles.  Since then there have been 2 new updates to the game.  Virtua Fighter 5R was released in Japanese arcades only, never to see the light of day on any consoles.  A valiant effort was put forth by many fans from the USA in the form of a 500 page petition to get the game in some form onto American shores.  I was among the ten thousand plus signatures.  The petition was hand delivered to Sega in person and for a while it seemed like they merely glanced over it and filed it away.  A few months later the announcement of Final Showdown was revealed and that it WOULD see a console release.  A full year after testing in the arcades, Sega revealed it would be a digital download release at the low price of $15 for both the PS3 and Xbox 360.  So 5 years we waited and finally received the latest update for Virtua Fighter 5, but how does it hold up?

GVN Review: Limbo

You are running through a forest, and not a soul to be seen around. It is eerily quiet; almost too quiet. Before you realize it, you come upon a gap. With a running start, you make a leap for the other side. The moment you leave the ground you realize you won’t make the distance, and begin hoping for a soft landing. Unfortunately, you land on a bed of wooden spikes, and die. Welcome to Limbo.

GVN Review: Diablo 3 (PC)

If there was ever a franchise that has risen from the reigns of a cult classic to a mainstream success, it’s the Diablo franchise. The first game came out in 1996 and ushered in the era of point and click hack and slash gaming. The game received moderate reviews among the gaming publications and had moderate success. Diablo 1 was applauded for its addicting gameplay, deep lore and random dungeon generator which ensured a unique gaming experience every time. Diablo was ported to the PlayStation a year later and Sierra would also release an official add-on called Hellfire.

Diablo 2 would be released 4 years later in 2000 and from there would improve upon everything that was found in the original Diablo. Diablo 2 increased the cast of playable characters, added a robust skill tree system, thousands upon thousands of unique weapons, armor and items, and improved multiplayer. With the skill tree system, Diablo2 allowed for player to literally play however they wanted by created multiple builds for each of the characters. However the best part about Diablo 2 was the expanded lore and engrossing story. We learned more about the war between heaven and hell and it engrossed us.
