GVN Quick Pick Round 4!
It's been a long time since I have done one of these. So here are two games I think you should definitely check out. I am not going to limit it to one system like I have in the past with each Quick Pick. Let's Begin.
Implosion: Never Lose Hope
Nintendo Switch
Implosion is a hack 'n' slash action game that was ported from iOS and Android systems. The gist of the game is that humanity had escaped to the stars after the XADA came out of nowhere and nearly wiped them out. Now humanity uses War-mechs to take on the XADA and ensure the survival of the human race. Implosion is a very simplistic action game with two attack buttons and special attacks that can be registered to an assigned button. You even have a dodge that allows you to evade some nasty attacks. Combat and controls are relatively smooth for the most part. There are times when you might get stuck in an attack animation and cant dodge a crushing boss attack.

HuBBs' Quick Picks - Round 3
It's that time again. As my back log of games continues to grow, my time to play all of these starts to shrink. So here are some quick snippets of games that I think you definitely need to check out.
Grand Kingdom
Sony Playstation 4
Grand Kingdom is a very unique turn based strategy RPG. You are cast as a mercenary for hire, accepting quests to defeat a variety of opponents from one of the four kingdom that you can contract with. You can build your army with a variety of different units ranging from standard knights and mages to bombers and dragon riders. Each soldier has unique properties and abilities that can make the combat very interesting. My only two complaints so far involve leveling up the classes of your soldiers seems a bit complicated and I can't seem to understand some small aspects of the item management system. The map system for each mission is set up in ways to force you to make smart decisions. Do you risk taking on stronger enemies? Use an item to get past an obstacle? Willingly take damage from artillery canons to take the quicker route? It's all about strategy. I think this is good pick up for the traditional RPG fans out there.
Recomendation: Definitely for RPG fans. Might turn off casuals.
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
Sony Playstation 4
If you missed out on the Playstation 2 release of the original Odin Sphere, then this is a must have. Developed by Vanillaware Games, makers of other challenging beautiful games like Muramasa and Dragon's Crown. Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is an updated version of the PS2 classic with HD enhanced graphics and revised gameplay. The artwork of this game is beautiful. Everything from the big detailed enemies to how wonderfully animated they are just screams art to me. The gameplay is fast and addicting for an action platformer. Odin Sphere's norse mythology based story is great as well with a well written story and tons of unique characters. Seriously, pick this game up.
Recommendation: Definite pickup for everyone

Review: Shadow of the Beast - PS4
Shadow of the Beast
Playstation 4
Developer: Heavy Spectrum Entertainment Labs
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
I am a big fan of the classic Shadow of the Beast trilogy from eons ago on the forgotten Commodore Amiga computer. These 3 games are to me the pinnacle of Amiga gaming. Challenging game design, beautiful graphics and an amazing alien world. The first was the one I played the most and probably the second hardest of the trilogy but that hasn't stopped people from beating it in 30 minutes. However to this day the first game has been remembered as one of the hardest games of classic gaming lore.

GVN Review: Brave Battle Saga: Legend of the Magic Warrior (Sega Genesis)
Brave Battle Saga: Legend of the Magic Warrior
Sega Genesis
Developed by Chuanpu
1996
Brave Battle Saga, or "Barver" Battle Saga if you prefer, is a turn based RPG from a company you never heard, nor did it receive any official release outside of Taiwan, China and other various parts of southeast Asia. It received a fan translation once it began circulating as a rom in the mid 2000's. Eventually like tons of other Genesis games that never got an official Stateside release, it found itself a physical release as a reproduction cart.

GVN Quick Review - Echo Of Souls(PC)
Echo Of Soul
PC
Publisher: Aeria Games
Developer: Nvius
Echo of Soul is the latest Korean Free-to-Play MMO to be brought stateside by Aeria Games. Most people tend to avoid anything published by Aeria Games but would be a huge mistake. Echo of Soul is probably one of the better Free-to-play games that will probably get swept under the rug. There's actually quite a bit going for it that outweigh its shortcomings.

DHGF Review: Project Spark (Xbox One)
Project Spark
Microsoft Xbox One
"Project Spark is an incredibly ambitious idea that Microsoft released. It’s one part game creation studio, one part online community project and a little bit of a game here. The one thing that is heavily push is the idea of creating worlds that you share with friends and other people around the world. It’s bold move for Microsoft especially after they just bought the Mojang games, makers of the insanely popular Minecraft. However does this concept of one part game creation studio and other part interactive game translate well? To be honest my feelings regarding Project Spark are mixed"

Quick Review: Shovel Knight (Wii U)
Shovel Knight
Nintendo Wii U
Publisher: Yacht Club Games
Publisher: Yacht Club Games
Developer: Yacht Club Games
Release: June 26, 2014
Upon first look, Shovel Knight just appears to be just another indie title with a retro 8bit graphic look. This year alone there have been an insane amount of retro style games released and Shovel Knight at first doesn't seem to be any different. To its credit however, Shovel Knight proves to be an excellent Action Adventure game akin to many of the NES greats like Faxanadu, Zelda 2, Kirby's Adventure and Battle of Olympus. Shovel Knight barrows much from these games and runs with it making it a diamond in the rough among a sea of indie shovelware.

Diehard Gamefan Review: Risen 3 (PC)
"Frustration, enjoyment, confusion and disappointment. These are the range of emotions I went through as I marched my way through Risen 3: Titan Lords. I never had the opportunity to play the first two games, but they have the reputation of not being well received by the general public. However, I went into Risen 3 with an open mind, hoping to see if the game may actually be the diamond in the rough and send the franchise in the right direction. Is there room for improvement? Can the third game in this franchise make a huge leap of improvements like The Witcher 2, Two Worlds 2 and Gothic 2 did for their respective franchises? Does the saying, “third time is the charm” apply to Risen 3?"

DHGF Review - Divinity: Original Sin (PC)
Larian Studios did something I never expected; they went far beyond the expectations for Divinity: Original Sin, the latest game in the Divinity franchise. After the fans spoke out and helped Larian reach their Kickstarter goal, the company did everything they can to prove to their supporters they were out to make one of the best games possible. Divinity: Original Sin is an incredible game that heralds back to the heyday of classic point and click RPG’s, and in many ways surpasses many of the greats like Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights. Larian Studios managed to set new standards in the realm of role playing with it’s unique approach to storytelling and highly addicting gameplay. Granted, it’s not a perfect experience, but the pros of playing Divinity: Original Sin heavily outweigh the issues that arise during your time playing.
