Another Gaming Marathon Death.....

Well actually it's about a year since the last reported gaming marathon death, but that doesn't keep people from getting darwin awards.  This time we have an 18 year old Taiwanese boy who died after playing Diablo 3 for over 40 hours  straight.  The boy neglected food and drink nonstop in favor of the game at a Lan center.  He was passed out when an employee at the center found him and managed to wake him.  After a few steps, the boy collapsed and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead after nine hours of intensive care.

GVN Review: Blades of Time (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

The premise of Blades of Time was very promising to me.   The game pushed hard to show off the way stylish combat, puzzles, and intense plat forming.  All of this was to be interwoven together with the game’s unique Time Rewind mechanic to offer you a unique gaming experience.  Unfortunately somewhere along the line the developers fumbled while executing this concept and what we ending up getting is a huge mess of frustration.

Review: Mad Dog McCree (Nintendo 3DS)

Here's my review of Mad Dog McCree that was posted over at Diehard Gamefan. Please check it out. And as usual here's a small excert from it.

Mad Dog McCree - Nintendo 3DS

"There really isn’t much I can say about a game that is almost twenty years old and was ported to just about every major console at the time. Everything from the PC to the Sega CD to the 3DO had a copy of Mad Dog McCree, each with varying levels of quality. Needless to say, the concept of Mad Dog McCree was a novel idea back in the times when American companies thought full motion video games were the wave of the future. I never got on board along with the rest of the gaming world back in the early 1990’s, and soon game companies fell in line and dropped the idea. For those who read Alex Lucard’s review of the enjoyable Wii port, well you might want to turn away for this one."

GVN Preview: Phantasy Star Online 2

For over ten years I have been waiting for a proper sequel to one of my favorite games of all time.  Between the time of the last iteration of Phantasy Star Online, Sega released the abysmal and poorly supported Phantasy Star Universe and the quite fun Phantasy Star Zero.  Universe left a sour taste in my mouth, while it was graphically superior to Online and had better character control, the game fell flat in many areas.  Mainly poor balance, poor variety of online missions, and lack of fun.  Zero had taken what Universe did wrong and took a few steps backwards.  Those steps backwards did not hurt the game at all as it allowed Zero to be a more accessible game since it was made for the Nintendo DS.
