GVN Review: The Banner Saga (PC)

The Banner Saga
Genre: Tactical RPG
Publisher: Versus Evil
Developer: Stoic
Release: Jan 14, 2014

Twenty-fourteen is off to a great start already with the stellar release of The Banner Saga.  The Banner Saga is a deep choice driven tactical RPG with results that alter the outcome of the endgame.  By endgame I mean after the next two games in the planned trilogy have released of course.  The Banner Saga is also a genre mixing game that has a segment that is very similar to the classic "The Oregon Trail" where you have to travel across a vast world and must have enough supplies to make the trek and make the right decisions to keep as many of your company alive until you reach your destination.

Game Rant: The Benefits of Single Player for Multiplayer Games

Being a fan of RTS games I took a look into Sword of the Stars 2. It turned out to be a very complex game as long as you don't mind it taking hours of your time. However, playing it got me thinking about a trend that has been appearing in games these days.

DHGF Review: Nidhogg (PC)

"The saying, “Looks can be deceiving” definitely applies to Nidhogg, an indie game from developers Messhof. Nidhogg has the graphical style of a classic Atari 2600 game, but underneath the deceptive simple graphics is an exciting, action driven and addictive multiplayer game. Nidhogg is an arena fencing game that pits two players against one another. The goal is simple: each player must reach their exit goal to win the match. All you have to do is kill your opponent that stands before you. Sounds simple but it’s anything but."

New Retro Gaming Magazine!

Attention fellow Gamers!  The website Nintendo Age is publishing a new gaming Magazine called Retro.  In the magazine, there will be articles, images, and other stuff all about retro games and current gen games.  Nintendo Age is stating that they are trying to get back into the nostalgia we all felt reading old issues of Nintendo Power and other gaming magazines that we grew up with.

The website is now taking subscriptions for the new magazine and it will be a bi-monthly magazine which means there will be 6 issues a year.  They are offering a Digital copy only subscription for $18 a year and a physical copy that also allows for a digital copy as well, in case you want to collect the magazines, and that one will be $33 a year.  You can register for your subscription at the following website: https://checkout.subscriptiongenius.com/ReadRetro.com/nintendoage.com/

I will be subscribing to this new magazine myself and I hope other gamers both new and old will support Nintendo Age and do the same.

Christmas Classic Gaming streams

For Christmas Eve and Christmas day I played Ranger X and Sonic 3 & Knuckles to completion.  Two of my favorite Sega Genesis games ever.  Here are the archive videos of each game.

WARNING. I commited the cardinal sin of broadcasting by having the mic right under my nose.  So expect lots of heavy breathing in the first two videos.

GVN Quick Review: Super Mario 3D World(Wii U)

Super Mario 3D World
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Nintendo
Genre: Platformer
Release: November 22, 2013

Super Mario 3D Land for the Nintendo 3DS was one of my favorite games on the mighty little handheld.  It's wonderfully designed 3D environments used the 3D effect in ways I actually expected since the system launched.  It contained lots of challenging platforming action that harkens back to the days of Super Mario 64 and even borrowing elements from the classic Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES.  Needless to say it was a smash hit.
