New stream show to debut soon. GVN Game Jam.

GVN Game Jam where I live stream a game and I have a guest on the stream with me as we talk about the game, some strategies, history, and even other gaming related stuff.  My guests will either join me live via skype or be in person with me.  I haven't determined a set day of the week to do this.  I was originally thinking on the opposite mondays of GVN Live but some people might not be available for that.  I am thinking maybe thursday nights and replacing my Retro night with this.  I'll have more info and a possible list of guests and games on the next update.

For those that want to hear GVN Live on the go, soon we will have them uploaded in mp3 format for your listening pleasure.  We are looking to get them hosted or either itunes or soundcloud (the latter being more likely) and will be linking to the playlist directly from here.  So stay tuned on that front.

Now the next episode will be on July 11th and it's going to be one hell of a showdown.  MarkB. and myself are going to have this long awaited debate of the Final Fantasy's.  Final Fantasy 6 versus Final Fantasy 7.  Who will win the debate of which was the better game in the series.  Tune in.

Protector's Top 10 Games!

I know it is only August and you are probably wondering why I am doing a Top 10 list in the middle of the year.  I have had many conversations with new gamers and veteran gamers about games we just love.  It doesn't matter if you have played the game a million times or one time.  There is something about it that just stays with you forever and you will never forget it.  That is why I came up with this list of 10 games and some honorable mentions that are my favorite games of all time.  These games of imprinted a memory in me that will never go away.  I hope that those reading this will give these games a chance especially if you have never played them.  Now, in the voice of Mario, "Here We Go!"

Hello everybody,

It has been a while since I have posted anything on the site and I just wanted to give an update on why and what I have plans for in the future for my GVN posts.  First off the main reason I haven't been posting much is because I am back in school finishing up my bachelors degree.  A lot of my focus has been on school and completing my classwork.  I have been able to finally find a balance between work and play so I have finally had time to play some video games.

Super Smash Bros. 3D on 3DS Preview

Here comes a new Challenger!  Yes the demo for Super Smash Bros. 3D is out on the 3DS and I was able to get some early access on it last week and I must say that I am obsessed.  As a fan of the series since the first Super Smash Bros. on N64 I had quite a few expectations for the new game on my favorite handheld of all time.  While playing I wanted to take a close look at the playable characters in the demo, the controls, the graphics, the soundtrack, and the layout of the menus.  I was extremely satisfied with a lot of these and I will explain more about it.

Nintendo "Amiibo"

Alright gamers, we heard about the Amiibo figures back at E3 in June and finally you can pre-order them at your local Gamestop or online at Gamestop.com.  The initial release of Amiibo figures will be 12 in total and will cost $12.99 each.  Currently we know that the Amiibo's will work on both the WiiU and the 3DS for certain games and the first game to take advantage of them will be Super Smash Bros. 3DS and WiiU.  

I don't know about the rest of you but I have been collecting the Disney Infinity figures because I think they look amazing and are very well made.  So I will also be collecting the Amiibos but know that I will get more use out of them because they will work on more games that I will actually want to play.

The first wave of figures include: Animal Crossing citizen, Link, Samus, Mario, Princess Peach, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Pikachu, Wii Fit Trainer, Yoshi, Star Fox, and Marth.  These figures look amazing and I think their use will be amazing and make the games the work with be even more entertaining.

I'm heading to the store after work and will pre-order the figures I really want and then eventually get the rest.  Have fun everyone and keep gaming!

GVN Top 25 Sega Genesis Games

Seeing how it's the 25th anniversary of the Sega Genesis (Megadrive for the rest of the world) I see fit to join the masses and do a cliched top games list for the fabled system. The Genesis was my catapult into what made me a Sega fanboy for the longest time up til the Dreamcast's demise. So let's honor Sega's most successful home console with a Top 25 games list. Keep in mind this list includes games I had played numerous times either by borrowing from a friend, renting, owned, or have owned.

Nintendo @ E3 Preview!

Another year has past and it is now time to get ready for E3!  In the next few days, we will finally see what the new video games that are being created, will look like and hopefully have some information about their release days.  I am super excited for this years E3 because of 2 reasons, 1. As a part of GVN I get to express my thoughts and have all you wonderful readers understand what I am feeling and 2. there should be an announcement for the new Legend of Zelda game coming out for the Wii U!

New Retro Gaming Magazine!

Attention fellow Gamers!  The website Nintendo Age is publishing a new gaming Magazine called Retro.  In the magazine, there will be articles, images, and other stuff all about retro games and current gen games.  Nintendo Age is stating that they are trying to get back into the nostalgia we all felt reading old issues of Nintendo Power and other gaming magazines that we grew up with.

The website is now taking subscriptions for the new magazine and it will be a bi-monthly magazine which means there will be 6 issues a year.  They are offering a Digital copy only subscription for $18 a year and a physical copy that also allows for a digital copy as well, in case you want to collect the magazines, and that one will be $33 a year.  You can register for your subscription at the following website: https://checkout.subscriptiongenius.com/ReadRetro.com/nintendoage.com/

I will be subscribing to this new magazine myself and I hope other gamers both new and old will support Nintendo Age and do the same.

PS Vita! Finally something to play!

So I have had my PS Vita for I believe a little over a year now and finally I have found games to play that peak my interest.  When I first invested in this handheld system I was excited because the PSP had some awesome games for it and I assumed that the Vita would follow suit.  When the system released I purchased Uncharted and Modnation Racers and even though they are awesome games, I lost interest in the system quickly.  Then Activision released Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified which I was hoping would give replay value of the Vita but once again I was disappointed because Black Ops Declassified was nothing like a Call of Duty game.  Yes it was a FPS but didn't feel smooth to me.  Needless to say after that horrible experience I put my Vita away and hadn't touched it until Killzone Mercenary was released.  I waited about a month after the release to pick it up because I got it for cheap on a Black Friday deal.  The game had me at the opening cinematic!  The graphics were stunning and the controls were so precise that I didn't find having to use the touchscreen every once in a while for certain actions as that much of an inconvenience.  It actually made the game a lot more enjoyable.  The gameplay was smooth and the storyline kept you engaged and wanting to play more.  Also Sony added a multiplayer experience on the Vita which ran smooth as well and gives the game a lot more replay value.  I never thought I would ever play a multiplayer game on a handheld that didn't use Ad-Hoc like on the old PSP.  I thought it would be choppy or lacking in graphics or having a lot of lag.  But I was gladly mistaken.  On top of Killzone Mercenary I picked up The Walking Dead: Complete First Season and Little Big Planet on the Vita and now I love the system.  I hope that developers and Sony keep going forward with the Vita and produce more games that will be exclusive for the Vita but add some story to previous series that were released on the Playstation and such.  What I mean is I would like a Resident Evil or Metal Gear Solid game that adds to the previous stories in the series but will only be available on the Vita.  Kind of like what the did with Silent Hill.
